Gift ideas under €20: our picks for her, for him, for kids and for the home
A small budget doesn't mean giving a gift without soul. For under €20, you'll find jewellery to wear every day, accessories to keep for years and practical items that come in handy from day one. Here are our ideas, sorted by person, plus a few tips to get it right.
For her
- Earrings. The safest gift of all: no size to guess. Discreet studs for every day, hoops or drop earrings for evenings out. See the Earrings department.
- A necklace or pendant. A fine chain can be worn alone or layered; an initial or birthstone pendant makes a personal gift. See Necklaces & pendants.
- A square scarf or a winter scarf. A square to tie at the neck or in the hair, a light stole or a warm scarf depending on the season. See Scarves & wraps.
- A belt. Skinny to cinch a dress, wide to give an outfit structure. See Women's belts.
For him
- A steel bracelet or ring. Stainless steel doesn't tarnish and can take the shower, which makes it ideal jewellery for a man who never takes anything off. See Bracelets and Men's jewellery.
- A winter accessory. A knitted beanie, a scarf, a neck warmer: simple gifts that are useful straight away. See Men's accessories.
- For the car. A steering wheel cover, an organiser or a car bin: the practical gift for someone who spends time behind the wheel. See Steering wheel covers and Car interior storage.
For kids
- A game or a craft kit, to fill afternoons without screens. See Toys & games.
- A school bag or a small bag for the next school year or for activities. See School bags & kids' bags.
- For a baby, a soft piece of clothing or a small newborn accessory. See Baby & Newborn.
For a toy, always check the minimum age shown on the product page: it takes small parts into account and is not up for debate.
For the home
- Clever storage: no-drill shelves, adhesive hooks, boxes. The gift they wouldn't have thought of buying themselves. See Storage.
- A touch of decor or soft furnishings: a small decorative object, a pillowcase. See Decor and Home textiles.
For pets (and their owners)
A chew toy, a squeaky ball or a grooming brush: a gift that delights the pet as much as its owner. See Pet toys and Grooming.
Good habits for a successful small gift
- Avoid sizes when you don't know them. Earrings, necklaces, scarves and accessories don't have any. For a ring, choose an adjustable style, or read our guide to finding out a ring size.
- Go for stainless steel for jewellery. It doesn't tarnish and can handle water: the gift won't end up dull at the back of a drawer. Find out more in our stainless steel jewellery guide.
- Think about use rather than effect. Something used every day brings to mind the person who gave it far longer than a gadget ever will.
